You know content is important.\u00a0 But how can you get people to read your content?<\/p>\n

More importantly, how can you get your target market <\/i>to read your content?<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re a marketing professional, writer or even a business owner looking to increase traffic to your website, you probably already know that the key to any successful website is stellar content.\u00a0 Which means your blog, an essential component of content marketing, must be well researched, well written and yes \u2013 well marketed.<\/p>\n

If you build it, they may not come.<\/p>\n

They may, but they probably won\u2019t, unless you are in some way publicizing your blog.\u00a0 I have seen online traffic dramatically increase after deploying some of these methods, and I\u2019ve also written articles that have been for the most part passed over.<\/p>\n

8 Tips for Increasing Your Blog\u2019s Readership and Boosting Your Search Engine Optimization<\/h3>\n

1.\u00a0 Post often, and consistently.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is what I\u2019ve found to be the best way to see a quick increase in your blog traffic.\u00a0 The more you post blogs, the more potential you have for readers.\u00a0 We\u2019ve seen this for ourselves \u2013 once we became committed to posting daily on our corporate blog our traffic steadily increased.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 Write about useful, engaging topics.<\/strong><\/p>\n

These tips only work if you write content people actually want to read.\u00a0 Who are your target audience?\u00a0 What do they want to know?<\/p>\n

Try to write about topics that either 1. Instruct (how-to articles); 2. Entertain (everyone loves humor); or 3. Inform (industry news, etc.).\u00a0 \u00a0If you don\u2019t know what your potential customers want to read \u2013 ask them.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 Keep it short.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Choosing a relevant, engaging topic is only half the battle.\u00a0 No one (and I mean no one) will want to read your blog if you write it like an English paper.<\/p>\n

Online readers are skimmers. \u00a0Stick to short articles (under 1,000 words) and short paragraphs.\u00a0 Use lots of paragraph breaks and subheads.\u00a0 Incorporate relevant photos and videos to illustrate your points.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Don\u2019t overlook metadata.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What\u2019s the first thing you do when you\u2019re looking for information on a topic?\u00a0 That\u2019s right, you Google it.\u00a0 That\u2019s why SEO is so important.<\/p>\n

What are the key words or phrases you want to lead online users to your site?\u00a0 Use those keywords in your blog\u2019s title, content and meta description.\u00a0 If you use a platform like WordPress, the program will help you make sure your keywords are used correctly.\u00a0 And don\u2019t forget to tag those blogs as well.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 Don\u2019t be afraid to guest blog.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Remember that old saying, \u201cI\u2019ll scratch your back if you scratch mine?\u201d\u00a0 It turns out that applies to blogging, too.\u00a0 Ask other websites in your industry to post some articles as \u201cguest posts\u201d and offer to do the same for them.\u00a0 This gives you an increase in your potential readership base for every guest blog you publish.<\/p>\n

NOTE:\u00a0 Don\u2019t forget to include an author bio on each guest blog with links back to your site, as well as a link to your Google+ profile (see #8).<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 Comment, and respond to comments.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The more you engage with your readers, the better.\u00a0 They will come to know you better and trust you.\u00a0 Think of it as a two-way relationship; don\u2019t just spew information at them, make it a discussion.\u00a0 (But don\u2019t get defensive; allow others to profess their own opinions)<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0 Integrate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I probably use this word in every blog I write. \u00a0Did you just write an amazing blog post?\u00a0 Great!\u00a0 Now Tweet it.\u00a0 Link to it on your Facebook page.\u00a0 Share it on Google +.\u00a0 Link back to it in other relevant articles.\u00a0 I\u2019ve said it once and I\u2019ll say it again \u2013 integrate, people!<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0 Get a Google+ account.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking of Google+, do you have an account?<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how smart those Google people are:\u00a0 they\u2019ve updated their search engine algorithm to look for trustworthy, high-quality authors.\u00a0 This concept of \u201cauthorship\u201d allows Google to improve search results by returning content it knows is from a credible source.\u00a0 And how do you get a good authorship ranking?\u00a0 By joining Google+, of course (I\u2019ve always said Google would take over the world one day\u2026).<\/p>\n

By associating your Google+ profile with every piece of content you write, you\u2019re increasing your author rank and making it easier for Google to find you.\u00a0 And you want <\/i>Google to find you (see #4).<\/p>\n
